PHYSICAL STRENGTHS: Excellent physical (human) condition. Enjoys long walks on the beach (with Sweeney and Brasco) as well as running/jogging (with Sweeney and Brasco). Also enjoys rigorous sexual activity (without Sweeney and Brasco). PHYSICAL WEAKNESSES: Enjoys sleep somewhat more than is healthy. Prone to napping at random intervals (usually with Sweeney...and Brasco). Incredibly ticklish. MAGICAL ABILITIES: Possesses unique mental and emotional connection with animals, specifically those of Canidae family (dogs, wolves, foxes, coyotes, dingoes, jackals and lycaons). Can project thoughts and ideas into consciousness of these creatures and accurately gauge and interpret their emotional/intellectual/physical responses. Ability also applies to supernatural creatures of similar origin (lycanthropes, kitsune, other therianthropes). Ability does NOT entail mind control of any kind, simply an intimate understanding and relationship with certain animals. The ULTIMATE Dog Whisperer. Currently in the process of discovering and developing some latent telepathic abilities that enable him to communicate with humans as well. PERSONAL SKILLS & TRAINING: Mastered the art of "pleading puppy dog eyes". Extremely knowledgeable on most topics of literary nature. Skilled at playing several musical instruments including piano and guitar, though mainly self-taught. Speaks French and Japanese with near fluency, several other languages conversationally. PERSONAL WEAKNESSES: Indulges in cigarettes but no alcohol. (Over)Appreciates a pretty face. Has penchant for stalking, lurking and/or loitering. Couldn't cook a decent meal to save his life. Has considerable Asian fetish. Likes getting friendly with the ladies and the gents. | personality Sascha may best be described as a 'neo-hippie/bohemian' and can generally be found with his nose buried in a book or lounging outdoors with his guitar and his faithful canine companions, Sweeney and Brasco. As a semi-vegetarian, he's very mindful of foods that are healthful and ethical for consumption (red meats are an absolute NO, although fish and chicken are occasionally acceptable) and makes sure that Irei acknowledges these criteria whenever he cooks (which is basically every day). Because of his academic background, Sascha harbors a profound love of books, the arts, and intellectual discussion of nearly any sort. He's also an avid music fan, whether playing or simply listening. Sascha always welcomes friendly conversation and loves to make others laugh. He has a quick wit and an even quicker tongue, and he's never above a bit of playful teasing. Although he is occasionally prone to sulking and/or pouting when things don't go his way, he rarely (if ever) is in a bad mood. | history Sascha Connolly's birth was nothing special, or so it seemed from his parents' reaction. His father was a young college student who only came back to his hometown during extended school breaks in order to visit his long-distance girlfriend; his mother, herself a young teenager who had only learned of her pregnancy the moment she had gone into labor, decided to turn her infant son over to someone who could offer him the care and support that she could not. Sascha spent his childhood and adolescence as a ward of the Bethesda Home for Boys, one of only a handful of orphanages sprinkled throughout the continental United States. A private organization located just outside of Savannah, Georgia, Bethesda provided a relatively safe and stable home for all of its residents. It was here that Sascha first discovered and began to cultivate his unusual ability to communicate- mentally and otherwise- with animals, especially dogs. Early on in his life he could feel a closer affinity for dogs than he could other people. By the time he was 10, he had convinced the administration to implement a new program in coordination with the local animal shelter that allowed some of the more delinquent residents of the home (especially those threatened with placement into juvenile detention centers or placed on temporary lockdown due to behavioral issues) a chance to train some of the dogs the shelter had deemed as unsocialized or 'behavioral cases'. Sascha took up the reins as head coordinator for the program, keeping open the lines of communication between Bethesda and the shelter, helping match certain dogs with their human counterparts (based on his innate ability to decipher the dogs' energy patterns and their reactions), and even serving as one of the trainers. Needless to say, the program was a huge success for both its human and canine participants. Sascha's second great passion was books. He'd exhibited an unusual level of intelligence from a very young age, and it was reflected in his studies. Sascha was part of a small group of Bethesda boys who received instruction as part of an independent, accelerated curriculum- similar to homeschooling- rather than attend one of the local public schools. He earned his high school diploma two years early and, after being granted emancipation as a minor, flew off to New York City to begin his education at NYU. Sascha loved his new surroundings, which stood in stark contrast to the hot and often balmy climate of his home in Savannah. His eager mind worked quickly and his appetite for learning was insatiable; through a combination of overloaded semesters, night classes and summer school, Sascha managed to earn his undergraduate degree- and graduate with top honors- in only two years. Enthralled with the literary courses he'd taken, he decided to pursue a doctorate in American literature. It was during the course of his graduate studies that he met Annie Jacobson, a student in one of the undergrad courses in which he served as a teaching assistant. Something between them clicked almost immediately, and within a year they were engaged. By the time Sascha had finally received his doctorate and accepted a faculty position at his alma mater as a Professor of Literature (at the ripe old age of 23), he and Annie were happily married with a beautiful, bouncing baby girl named Bella. They renovated a fairly spacious old flat in Greenwich Village and settled down for a life of relative peace and comfort. Sadly, their happiness was short-lived. Annie, who had taken a job as a financial consultant after graduation, had been hired on with an international finance corporation that worked out of the North Tower of the World Trade Center. Because neither she nor Sascha had earned quite enough by that point to hire a nanny, Bella often ended up spending her days in the daycare center on one of the lower levels of the building. The tragedy of September 11, 2001 claimed both of their lives. Sascha was left in a state of utter shock at the events that had played out. He quickly resumed his normal activities- much too quickly for many of his students' and colleagues' liking. He turned down their advice to seek counseling or therapy and instead funneled his extra time and energy into a writing project he'd begun before Bella was born. Fueled by a sense of emptiness and despair at their untimely deaths, he completed a draft and submitted it to several publishing houses; one accepted him, and within the next year he was a published writer. The next few years passed by quietly for Sascha. He became somewhat introverted and withdrawn, although he managed a friendly façade during his work at the university. One night at a dinner party in a colleague's home, Sascha overheard talk of a man in Chinatown who claimed to have the ability to temporarily reunite people with the spirits of their deceased loved ones. Apparently the man, who was referred to only as 'Irei', had built up quite a reputation for himself in the wake of 9/11, at least to the point that the academic community had begun to take notice. Steeling his resolve and reasoning that, in fact, stranger things had happened (to him, even), Sascha set off to meet this mystery man. Their initial meeting was brief, but Irei was able to successfully channel Annie's spirit and allow Sascha to experience a sense of closure. Feeling as though a huge weight had been lifted from his shoulders, Sascha made a decision to befriend his lonely benefactor as an additional measure of his gratitude, although the decision was made somewhat against the other man's will. Vowing to visit on a routine basis, Sascha left Irei's home only to be confronted with a starving dog rummaging through the trash in an alleyway the next block over. Unable to ignore a creature in such obvious need (and feeling the stirrings of his long-ignored gift once more), he took the dog home with him and helped her to fully recover. A bond quickly formed between the two, and soon they were inseparable; Sweeney, as he had named her, was constantly by his side whether at home, school, or even the subway. An equally strong yet somewhat different bond had also begun to form between Sascha and the strange man who had helped assuage his grief at losing his wife and child, and soon he and Irei had become a bit of an odd couple. Close friends (and occasionally something more, provided much alcohol was involved), the two men (plus dog) decided to make the trip to Elysium together after the first wave of the virus had struck. After an initial period of adjustment, Sascha decided it would be best for him to stay productive and intellectually stimulated by contributing his literary knowledge and expertise at the library in Helicharis. | ooc Tetsuno- | |
